Description


C. japonica, a Japanese Hornbeam is a smaller variety, usually less than thirty (30') feet in height, but does not have considerable fall color display. Cultivated for its upright or pyramidal habit, ornamental foliage, and pendant, leafy-bracted racemes of friut. Gray bark is fluted and smooth. Leaves are mid-green, ovate, unequally toothed and 3 to 5 inches long. This tree is attractive in a park or woodland setting.
