Foliage of the Tilia Americana (Redmond Linden
The Tilia Americana is commonly known as the Basswood or American Linden.  It is native to eastern North America, from southeast Manitoba east to New Brunswick, southwest to northeast Texas, and southeast to South Carolina, and west along the Niobrara River to Cherry County, Nebraska.

The 'Redmond Linden' is a variety of the American Linden or Basswood. The growth rate is medium to medium-fast. Mature height is approximately 60 feet with a 45 feet horizontal spread.

The Redmond Linden is an excellent shade tree and it develops a pyramidal canopy shape. Foliage is dense with 2 to 4 inch leaves, bright green. The fall color is yellow.

The Redmond Linden is an excellent tree for urban conditions, adapts well to alkaline soils, air pollution and soil compaction.

It is recommended as an ornamental tree when the mass of foliage or a deep shade is desired; no native tree surpasses it in this respect. It is often planted on the windward side of an orchard as a protection to young and delicate trees.
